Second-Year University Work

Weaving samples

Exploration with Dobby looms and Double Cloth and learning how to translate observational drawings into my practice.

For a lot of these samples, I was inspired by Scottish tartan with its interlocking coloured lines and twill weaving structure. I wanted to give my samples a modern twist so I chose a brighter colour palette that consisted of many pinks and I contrasted this with deeper reds and blacks to create a youthful gothic feel to my pieces.

For the double cloth samples I was interested in the colour combinations I could use to create contrast on the front and back of the pieces.
